YMCA to manage Burra Swimming Pool

YMCA South Australia, in partnership with the Regional Council of Goyder, will manage the Burra Swimming Pool over the 2019-2020 summer season.

The pool, located in Bridge Terrace, will transition to YMCA management for a one-year trial period when it opens at the start of November.

The facility will be overseen by YMCA Northern Region Manager, Ben Whalan, who encouraged local residents and visitors to come along to cool down on warm summer days.

“Public swimming pools are valued highly by the local community and the YMCA is experienced at running them for the benefit of everybody,” he said. “Our aim is to create a safe and inviting atmosphere that is accessible and welcoming to all. There’s nowhere better to be on a hot summer day than relaxing with friends at the local pool.”

Temperature permitting, the Burra Swimming Pool will be open Monday to Friday (excluding Public holidays) with session times between 3pm and 5.30pm, and 6.30pm and 9pm. Weekends, public holidays and school holiday session times will be between 1pm and 5.30pm, and 6.30pm and 9pm. The pool will be closed on Christmas Day.

The swimming pool will be open for public swimming if the forecast temperature is 28 degrees or over per the BOM weather forecast as from 6pm the night before, using the Port Pirie weather report. Entry to the pool will remain $2.
