YMCA to get kids in the water this summer
YMCA South Australia is launching an initiative aimed at providing free access for primary school students to local YMCA-managed swimming pools during the school holidays.
The ‘School Swim Voucher’ scheme will see the leading not-for-profit organisation provide primary schools with vouchers entitling students to access a free swim at their pool at any time that the pool is open during the school holiday period. The aim is to engage with children and make visiting the pool accessible by removing the financial barrier.
YMCA Chief Operations Officer, Andrew Mundy, said that the swim vouchers were aimed at encouraging children across the local community to swim, be active and be safe in the water over the summer months.
“Summer is a great time to get out, be active and enjoy some family time. By offering free swimming vouchers in the region, we are hoping to promote swimming as an affordable family activity while highlighting the importance of water safety in the community,” he said.
“The YMCA is a proud provider of water safety and swimming lessons in South Australia and we believe that learning essential water safety and swimming skills early in life, not only reduces incidents around water, but promotes healthy active lifestyles.”
Over 5,000 vouchers will be provided to primary schools for distribution in early December across areas in which the YMCA manage swimming pools.
The vouchers are transferable, meaning that if families travel or holiday in other parts of regional South Australia where a YMCA recreation centre is located, they can also be used to access these facilities.
