Pilates launched at Holdfast Bay
YMCA South Australia has launched a new Pilates studio at Holdfast Bay Community Centre (HBCC), furthering the organisation’s longstanding commitment to community health and wellness.
‘Holdfast Pilates’ opened on 11 October and offers reformer style Pilates classes that are approachable, open to all ages and abilities and welcoming, particularly to those who are new to low impact training.
Holdfast Bay Council supported the YMCA’s initiative and approved a request for significant building improvements to adapt the nominated room in the old school on the site and upgrade fittings to the standard required.
YMCA South Australia Northern Region Development Manager, Haydn Bellamy, said the innovation was an example of the strong and ongoing partnership with Council, which recently granted the YMCA a five-year extension to manage and operate HBCC.
“Bringing Reformer Pilates to the Holdfast Bay community and beyond enables the YMCA to broaden our wellbeing reach,” he said.
“As partners of the City of Holdfast Bay Council, Holdfast Pilates supports Council’s goal of helping to build a healthy, active and resilient community. Holdfast Pilates is for everybody and we look forward to further connecting with and serving the community to enhance wellbeing.”
The studio has eight reformer beds and trainers can tailor moves to people’s specific abilities and needs. The benefits of Pilates include improved flexibility, muscle strength (particularly the core), improved posture and mental health.
HBCC offers a free orientation class for those who are new to reformer Pilates. Standard classes are tailored to different levels from beginner to advanced, with specialised style classes such as strength and tone, stretch and lengthen, and burn and core.
