New Leisure Centre facilities a boost for Port Lincoln community
The Port Lincoln community welcomed the launch of the new facilities at the Port Lincoln Leisure Centre on Saturday, 14 December.
Work on construction of a new indoor sports show court, an outdoor basketball shooting court and three new squash courts with moveable walls started in late 2018 after a four-year planning process.
The new squash courts were welcomed by representatives from the Port Lincoln and Arno Bay Squash Clubs, who tested them out on the day, while Port Lincoln Basketball Association hosted a sausage sizzle and held exhibition matches on the show court.
Port Lincoln Leisure Centre manager Anna Ryan said the YMCA was excited to help launch the new facilities after managing some minor inconveniences during building.
“As is always the case in the construction process, there’s been some disruptions that needed to be managed, but the result is that we now have great new facilities that the community can use and be proud of,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to come to see the renovations and enjoy them for themselves.”
Port Lincoln Basketball Association held a mixed under 20 game and a Men's A grade game on the new court during the launch event and association secretary Narelle Crack said the wait had been worth it and that the new facility would open the door to Port Lincoln hosting its own regional carnival.
